One of the most mortifying things I ever witnessed was seeing an intern find out it was her last day on the job, while at her send-off dinner. Her boss, the manager, had invited everyone out to say “thanks for all the hard work” but he forgot to mention to her that it was her last day, until the dinner. What I couldn’t figure out was how someone could make such a mistake. How do you forget to tell someone it’s their last day, until we’re already drinking margaritas and eating nachos? That’s like, not just unprofessional, it was cruel in its negligence.
