Giving a character the “comedic traits” of a condition without the social responsibility of the condition’s label is such a gross and old-timey cop-out. It’s like Paul Lynde’s campy closeted gay character on Bewitched, but without the excuse of social pressures. Advertiser’s aren’t going to pull out on Big Bang Theory for admitting that Sheldon’s entire personality is just the symptoms of Asperger’s in front of a camera. Doing so would probably require the writers to do a little more research into how human beings work, on top of all of their research into science and video game references. But given how often technical inaccuracies make it into the show, maybe they’re better off sticking to their current lazy format.
